STATUS QUO DRUMMER ROCKS WITH CORPORATION ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Status Quo drummer, Jeff Rich, visited pupils at a Corporation Road Primary School last week to deliver a percussion masterclass.
Pupils from Corporation Road Community Primary School, part of Lingfield Education Trust, learned about a wide range of different percussion instruments from across the globe, watched a solo performance by Jeff and had the opportunity to play some of the instruments themselves.
Ann Pringleton, Headteacher at Corporation Road Community Primary School, said: “The children in our school love singing and music, so I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for them to have first-hand experience of meeting and watching a famous musician, as well as learning more about the history of the instruments.
“Jeff told the children about his career, including his experiences on tour and visiting countries across the world, and also taught them about the history of percussion from its development in Africa right through to modern day. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it was an honour to welcome such a highly esteemed musician to the school.”
Jeff Rich has delivered over 7,000 masterclasses in schools across the UK to encourage children to take up an instrument, not specifically just in percussion.
He said: “I was extremely impressed with the behaviour of the children. I have visited a lot of schools all over the UK and I will definitely remember Corporation Road with fond memories.
“The staff made both my technician and myself very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. I look forward to returning again in the not too distant future.”
